Done yet?

Image
We still had a few things growing in our garden. I wasn't sure if they were done yet, so I left them to grow. Oops! So when I saw this watermelon, I thought it must be time to harvest the other three. Hunter was excited to pick them, so I called him outside to the garden. Everyone carried them inside. They sat on the counter looking so pretty. We were excited to eat them for dinner. Then we saw this. I guess they weren't done yet! Oh well, its time to clean up everything and get ready for my fall garden. Hopefully things will turn out better.

Just Peachy

While we were out playing in the yard we noticed that our peach tree had been attacked by the birds. They saw that delicious fruit and couldn't resist. There was only one lonely peach left, so we picked it before they could. I wanted to take a picture of it, but before I could the kids started eating it. Golly, they might be worse than the birds! It was very hard to only have one peach. Audrey and Cannon kept fighting over it! It was yummy and very juicy. I hope that next year we have more peaches. That way I'll get more than a little bite!

BIG wishes

For some reason I love to work in the garden. I definately did not like to do this when I was a kid. Each summer my sister's and I would get a "row" (or more) to weed. We hated doing this. Then we would have to pick everything and then help with the canning. We hated this more. Now I love it. I feel like I've really accomplished something. I love getting my hands dirty mixing up the dirt. I like picking seeds out. I like it that my kids like to help me. I like to stand there and water the garden and imagine the little seeds growing. I love to see the first little bit of green come out of the dirt. I like to see things grow big and produce. Although things in the desert don't grow as abuntly as in other places. I have had some small succces. It makes it all worthwhile to have your kids eating something that they had a part in growing. It is delicious and healthy. It makes me happy.
